¿Por qué el color verde representa la esperanza?
Why does the color green represent hope?
Es una cuestión meramente cultural, pero atribuimos significados a los colores. Y algunas de esas relaciones vienen de siglos atrás.
It is a purely cultural matter, but we attribute meanings to colors. And some of those relationships come from centuries ago.
El verde es el color de la esperanza. Y esta no solo es una creencia popular. También en los escudos de armas, el verde -que en heráldica recibe el nombre de sinople- representa la esperanza, además de la fortaleza.
Green is the color of hope. And this is not just a popular belief. Also in the coats of arms, green -which in heraldry is called sinople- represents hope, as well as strength.
La idea de que la esperanza es verde -que ya aparece mencionada en documentos medievales- tiene que ver con el mundo rural y la agricultura.
The idea that hope is green -which is already mentioned in medieval documents- has to do with the rural world and agriculture.
En primavera, la esperanza viene marcada por las nuevas cosechas que garantizan alimento y riqueza para los meses siguientes. Y los nuevos brotes siempre tiñen el campo de color verde.
In spring, hope is marked by the new harvests that guarantee food and wealth for the following months. And the new shoots always dye the field green.
La vinculación del verde con la esperanza la consideramos habitual en occidente, pero no existe en todas las culturas. Así, en el mundo oriental, este color aparece relacionado con la armonía y el equilibrio.
We consider the link between green and hope common in the West, but it does not exist in all cultures. Thus, in the oriental world, this color appears related to harmony and balance.
